How should I prepare for my colonoscopy procedure?

You need to clean out your colon before your colonoscopy. Any residue may obscure the view of your colon and rectum during the exam. To empty your colon, your doctor may ask you to do one or more of the followings:

• Follow a special diet the day before the exam.
• Take a laxative.
• Use an enema kit.
• Adjust your medications.
• Also tell your doctor if you take aspirin or other medications that thin the blood, such as warfarin (Coumadin)
